History of the Kriya Yoga Centre in Sterksel
History of the estate
In 1920 a monastery was build on the Heezerweg 7 in Sterksel. It also served as a seminar venue. The training centre was mainly for the training of young fathers who were to spread the gospel in North Africa. These missionaries adapted to the Arabian culture and wore long white robes named ‘jalabas’. Soon they were named “white fathers”.
In 1960 the seminar was torn down because fewer fathers remained and the mission work waned. In its place a new building was built to house the remaining fathers. At the end of the 1970s it was sold to the sculptor Harry Storms (1945-2015). He started a gallery and sculpture garden, de Procure.
Where we meditate today used to be his exhibition hall and the present bedrooms were his ateliers for him and his guests to work on their art. He displayed his bronze statues outside of which the present stone bases are reminders. Harry Storms practiced Transcendental Meditation in a tree house of which remnants are still visible near the big pond.
