Lahiri Mahasaya (1825-1895) brought Kriya Yoga back into the world. Lahiri Mahasaya was born in Nadia, West Bengal where he at first led a common but devotional family life. His spiritual quest reached its highest point when he was transferred to the Himalayas. It was there – at Ranikhet–he met his immortal guru Babaji Maharaj. After materialising a huge palace to fulfil Lahiribaba’s last big wish, he initiated him into the sacred and secret techniques of Kriya Yoga. Lahiri Mahasaya’s desire for God realization was completely fulfilled by reaching such an incomprehensible state of cosmic consciousness.
Incited by Babaji Maharaj, he returned home to perform his worldly duties end initiate sincere seekers. He became a perfect realized yogi, able to show the path to liberation to people in the world, as well to monks, men and women of various religions. Lahiri Mahasaja has been a constant example for the modern man in this world: he was a realized master of the highest state and at the same time he had a family and his daily job in the world.
